PreludeSYNC DISTAL Compression Device Now Available Globally

The first product known to be specifically designed for use in distal transradial anatomical “snuff box” procedures, that assists in achieving patent hemostasis.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, February 1, 2019  — Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:MMSI), a leading manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable devices used primarily in cardiology, radiology, oncology, critical care and endoscopy, announces that the PreludeSYNC DISTAL Compression Device, the first product specifically designed to achieve hemostasis of the radial artery during procedures where access is gained via the distal radial artery, is now available in the United States, European, Middle Eastern, African and Asia-Pacific markets.

Designed with a comfortable band and a large window for site visibility, the PreludeSYNC DISTAL Compression Device is easily applied over the arteriotomy, allowing the clinician to slowly inflate the balloon with air while simultaneously removing the sheath. It then maintains pressure at the site to allow the access wound to achieve patent hemostasis.

“Merit is committed to advancing transradial access procedures, and that is why we have taken notice of the recent interest in distal access site procedures,” said Fred P. Lampropoulos, Chairman and CEO of Merit. “The PreludeSYNC DISTAL Compression Device is a direct result of applied innovation in response to customer feedback. We are now offering the first device specifically designed for distal access procedures because our partners in the medical community told us they needed an instrument to maintain hemostasis after procedures performed at the more distal site.”

Merit is also answering an unprecedented level of demand for distal access training through its ThinkRadial® course on Saturday, February 9, 2019. The course will feature a dedicated three-hour session specific to distal radial access, which will be streamed live online and available to Interventional Cardiologists and Radiologists who want to learn the distal technique. To register for the event, please visit the webinar event page. Additional information about other ThinkRadial courses may be found on the program’s website.

The live streaming event will provide a unique opportunity to get an inside look at Merit’s ThinkRadial program, and features Ferdinand Kiemeneij, MD, PhD, of The Netherlands, who is widely considered the “father of transradial intervention;” Sandeep Nathan, MD, an interventional cardiologist at the University of Chicago Medical Center; and Darren Klass, MD, an interventional radiologist at the Vancouver Coastal Health, Canada.

The following lectures will be presented during the live streaming event (Note: all times in Mountain Standard Time):

  • 8:30 am dTRA The Next Generation of Radial Access – Dr. Kiemeneij
  • 9:00 am Distal Ultrasound Techniques – Dr. Klass
  • 9:30 am Technique, Pitfalls & Challenges dTRA & Changing the Room Set Up – Dr. Kiemeneij
  • 10:30 am Distal Catheter Specifics to Hemostasis – Dr. Nathan
  • 11:00 am dTRA Taped Cases – Dr. Kiemeneij
