Commitment to Achieving Net-Zero

Merit Medical UK Limited is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Emissions Reduction Targets

Merit Medical has adopted the following greenhouse gas reduction targets. Our targets are reviewed and approved by the Governance and Sustainability Committee of our Board of Directors.

  • Near-Term Target: Merit Medical commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 40% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline year.
To support our Scope 1 and 2 near-term target, Merit Medical commits to use 50% or more renewable electricity globally by 2030.
  • Long-Term Target: Merit Medical commits to reduce absolute Scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 65% by 2050 from the 2020 baseline year.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2020 (Scope 1 + 2); 2023 (Scope 3)
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

All emissions are calculated using an operational control boundary, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol corporate standard (“GHG Protocol”) and are inclusive of UK operations for Merit Medical.

Merit Medical’s required Scope 3 categories for the UK were first calculated in 2023, resulting in a different baseline year than Scope 1 and 2.

In 2025, Merit Medical underwent a rebaselining exercise to account for acquisitions and to increase alignment with internationally recognized best practices, such as the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. As a result, we have restated baseline figures to reflect the improved accuracy. These restatements are part of our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement in our carbon reporting practices.

Baseline year emissions: 2020 (Scope 1 + 2); 2023 (Scope 3)
EMISSIONS TOTAL (tCO2e)

Progress Toward Emission Reduction Targets

As stated above, Merit Medical committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 Emissions by 40% by 2030 and 65% by 2050. From its baseline year of 2020, Merit Medical UK Limited has increased scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13.7%. This is primarily due to the rebaselining of its 2020 emissions to account for previously omitted fugitive emissions from use of refrigerant gases.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Moving forward, Merit Medical hopes to implement or continue the following projects within our UK Operations:

  • Source Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs)
  • Support Merit Medical’s Smart Shipping initiative which aims to reduce unnecessary packaging associated with its products
  • Implement energy reduction programs within our UK warehousing operations such as movement to 100% LED lighting.
  • Improved accuracy of Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions in 2026
