Last year, we launched the Merit Way, a fresh set of core values to guide us in the years to come. As we continue to embed these values—known as HEART—into our culture at Merit Medical, we maintain our mission of contributing to a more sustainable future.

Here’s a look at how HEART—Health, Excellence, Agility, Responsibility, and Teamwork—played a crucial role in our 2024 corporate sustainability progress.
H—Health: Serving people near and far
We prioritize people. From employee wellness to workplace safety, we’re committed to the health of those whose lives we touch. At our facilities, we strive to improve our approach to important topics, such as health, safety, well-being, and inclusion and diversity.
Led by our Wellness Coordinator, we provide education and resources on a variety of health topics throughout the year, such as heart health, cancer awareness, and healthy habits. We continue to offer on-site health clinics at our facilities in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Tijuana, Mexico, helping to bring affordable healthcare directly to our team.
We strongly believe in giving back to our communities. Through our local operations and partnerships with important organizations, we engage in a variety of philanthropical efforts, such as product donations, supply drives, clean-up initiatives, and educational programs.
E—Excellence: Setting our targets high
Our commitment to sustainability, quality, and responsible conduct is promoted from the most senior levels of our business. We hold ourselves accountable to high standards of honesty, fairness, and integrity, and we expect the same standards of conduct throughout our organization and our supply chain partners.
We’re committed to a strong compliance and ethics culture. Responsible business practices are essential to fulfilling our mission of saving and improving lives. Wherever the opportunity arises, we go above and beyond.
Other ways our organization was recognized for excellence in 2024 include:
- Newsweek: America’s Greenest Companies of 2025
- Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies 2024
- Best in Class National Wellness Award (Merit Galway)
- 2024 Top Employer Award (Merit China)
A—Agility: Overcoming challenges
At Merit, no challenge is too great.
By emphasizing flexibility, creativity, and innovation, our team quickly responds to challenges. We continuously collect, evaluate, and act upon data to better serve our healthcare partners. Customer feedback matters.
We also look ahead to form a strong business continuity strategy in the face of a changing planet. We perform country-by-country analyses to identify potential risks and opportunities, and we use this information to stay prepared—all to continue delivering our medical devices to patients in need, even in the face of disruption.
R—Responsibility: Doing our part
As a company invested in bettering healthcare, we acknowledge our responsibility to do right by the communities we serve. We closely monitor our environmental footprint by measuring emissions year-after-year.
In 2024, we’re pleased to report key achievements in our mission to reducing our global impact:
- 31% of our energy came from renewable and carbon-free sources, compared to 5% in our 2020 baseline year.
- Our water intensity decreased by 17% compared to our 2020 baseline year due to our investments in water-efficiency initiatives.
- 70,000+ pounds of prevented or reduced waste by utilizing our Merit Smart Shipping program.
- 4.2 million pieces of paper saved by transitioning to an electronic work orders program.
T—Teamwork: We’re in this together
We listen.
Our team works hard to maintain an inclusive global culture that reflects the diversity of the customers we serve and fosters an environment where everyone feels welcome. We also aim to create meaningful work for our employees and ensure they understand their importance. Through career development opportunities, we invest in the people we hire.
In 2024, we made considerable progress across all aspects of engagement, in all areas of the organization. Our people saw the most significant improvements in how their work is recognized and in their opinions being heard—increases of 88% and 86% respectively, compared to 2022.
We’re excited to track positive change as we continue to implement the Merit Way.
What’s next?
Driven by a desire to make a difference in the world, our sustainability priorities are critical to our overall success, the health of people across the globe, and developing strong relationships with communities. We’ve seen significant success in the past year—and we aren’t stopping there.
By continuing to emphasize the importance of people and the planet, we’re determined to make Merit more sustainable, every day.
