Radial Approach–It’s Time for Options

Transradial access for percutaneous coronary interventions is a growing trend that is helping to shape Merit’s radial approach product line. “Transradial PCI has grown from 1.3% of PCI in the US in 2007 to 4.5% in 2009 and may now be over 10%,” reports Dr. Jennifer Tremmel (Stanford University, CA) who believes “this rate may soon surpass the 29% seen outside the US.”

Merit is perfectly positioned to maximize the radial access opportunity by offering several new product options in a comprehensive radial approach product line, including the Finale® radial compression device and the Prelude® sheath introducer. These products complement Merit’s broad offering of ancillary products used in interventional cardiology and provide additional product selection options for clinicians who prefer the radial approach.

As percutaneous transradial access procedures become more popular among interventionalists all over the world, the need for adequate training in the technique will become increasingly important. In response to this need, Merit is also in the process of implementing radial access training programs. Due to our expanded radial product offering and the radial access training programs, Merit is already experiencing rapid sales growth.
