SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — April 2, 2019  — Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:MMSI) announced today that it will host a program on wire-free localization at the 2019 SBI/ACR Breast Imaging Symposium, held April 4-7, 2019 at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida. Merit, through its wholly owned subsidiary Cianna Medical, is the market leader in wire-free localization with the SCOUT® Radar Localization system.

The Think Wire-Free educational program at SBI, “Disruptive Technology: The Evolution of Wire-Free Localization,” is for radiologists and administrators who want to implement or expand an advanced wire-free breast tumor localization program in their facility or healthcare system.

The program will be presented by Dr. Mary K. Hayes, an award-winning, boardcertified radiologist specializing in women’s imaging. Dr. Hayes is a sought-after expert in the field who has served on multiple national panels, including ACR and NCoBC committees focused on standardized criteria and quality measurements for breast imaging. Her current research includes expanded application of wire-free nonradioactive localizations in the breast and axilla. During this program, Dr. Hayes will address:

  • The evolution of disruptive technology, from wires to dual-purpose, wire-free localization reflectors placed during breast and lymph node biopsy
  • How wire-free technology supports a smoother, more efficient process for patients, radiologists, and schedulers
  • Preserving options for patients and physicians, using a radar wire-free approach, even if follow-up MRI is needed
  • The potential for dual-purpose, wire-free localization in 2019 and beyond, including a diagnostic process with fewer, faster multipurpose devices and an expanded breast care paradigm

The program at SBI is part of the ongoing Think Wire-Free educational platform. SBI/ACR 2019 attendees can register online for this program, as well as other upcoming Think Wire-Free programs, at www.merit.com/thinkwirefree. All SBI/ACR attendees are also invited to visit Cianna Medical during the conference at booth #401, where SCOUT technology will be showcased. Program details:

About SCOUT
SCOUT is uniquely suited for marking tumors and biopsy sites prior to neoadjuvant therapy. It is important to note that, because the SCOUT reflector has a clinically insignificant MRI artifact, it does not interfere with MRI studies, so there is no restriction on the imaging modalities that can be used effectively throughout treatment. With seven peer-reviewed publications and over 20 clinical abstracts, the SCOUT system has been proven to be easy to use and provides accurate detection and precise localization. SCOUT also has been shown to improve radiology workflow and significantly reduce OR delays. SCOUT has received significant recognition from medical societies and industry associations including the ASBS Scientific Impact Award, the Gold Award for Medical Design Excellence Award and the Premier Innovation Award.
