We're Here to Help

Merit Family,

I'd like to use this week's newsletter to express my gratitude to all Merit employees for keeping each other safe and healthy these past 3 months.

I recognize that every employee has had to make substantial changes to daily work routines, whether this means office personnel working from home, production personnel coming into work and doing everything possible to social distance (even eating lunch alone or in their cars), or management teams limiting in-person meetings or transitioning exclusively to virtual Teams meetings.

Working during Pandemic

All of these adjustments are challenging, but as a company-as a family-we've done a tremendous job at keeping our infection rates low while also preventing the spread of infections throughout our facilities when there have been positive cases.

By this point, we've all put in a great deal of time, effort, and discipline, and I encourage you to keep that momentum going. Keep remembering why we've made these changes. We want to continue to save lives, keep the community transmission low, and help our healthcare facilities be more equipped to care for COVID-19 and other ill patients.

I know the weather is warming up and summer is on its way, which for many symbolizes a time to kick back and relax. As much as we're tempted to let go of the COVID-19 protective measures we've been practicing, please don't give up. We still have a ways to go before we have an effective treatment protocol and vaccine in place for COVID-19.

In the meantime, please know that I'm incredibly proud of every employee for making the decision to put each other's health at the forefront. Every day your sacrifice and dedication is saving lives.

HEALTHY RECIPE OF THE WEEK

To help you get through the summer in a COVID-19-friendly way, each week I'll post a new seasonal healthy recipe to try. This week?

Easy Grillable Veggie Burgers

Made with savory black beans, these veggie burgers are packed with almost 10 grams of protein per burger. Enjoy them with a side of grilled vegetables, a salad, or sweet potato wedges for a new and delicious BBQ experience.

SILVER LINING STORY

It seems like every day (COVID-19 or no) we're bombarded with frightening and worrisome news. But the truth of the matter is, good things are happening all around us-we just have to look.

This week's Silver Lining Story is a true love story to say the least. When Joyce Hoffman came down with COVID-19 in May, she and her husband Don had to remain apart for over a month until she recovered. Both 90 years old, it was the longest Joyce and Don had ever been without each other.

"After 67 years of marriage this was excruciating for them," granddaughter Melynne Klaus told ABC News. "However, I am so happy to share that they were reunited and cannot stop holding hands."

UPDATE ON COVID-19 AT MERIT

COVID-19 Metrics

We've now identified 41 cases of COVID-19 among the Merit family of approximately 6,100 (26 in the United States, one in France, two in Ireland, one in The Netherlands, and 11 in Mexico). These employees are all recovering well and are at home or have returned to work.

All facilities have implemented stringent COVID-19 protection measures to prevent any spread of the virus among Merit employees.

Please visit the Merit Metro (for employees who have Merit email addresses) or www.merit.com/covid-19-response-resource-page/ for the most updated information on Merit and COVID-19.

Please stay safe. Please stay positive (and keep smiling from 6 feet). I look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Regards,

Dr. Nicole Priest, MD

Merit Medical Chief Wellness Officer
